The internet has an interesting relationship with celebrities. Sometimes the internet can make a celebrity and sometimes a celebrity can break the internet.

Whether it’s strategic or genuine, here are 10 times celebrities have sparked online chatter, memes and gossip.

For years, Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez have been at odds online as Justin Bieber’s wife and ex-girlfriend.

However, despite trolls and online rumors about their relationship, the model and actress decided to take matters into their own hands and were photographed together at the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The photo comes weeks after Hailey touched on their alleged feud Call her father podcast.

“All I can say is that when I’m in a relationship with anybody, I’ve never been with them — that’s the end of it,” she said in an episode of the podcast that aired in September. “You don’t have to like me, but I believe that no matter what, there can always be mutual respect between people. To me, that means you don’t have to say anything. You don’t have to like me, but you don’t have to say anything.”

Olivia Wilde’s Don’t worry my love has not been free from controversies. A video showing singer-turned-actor Harry Styles spitting on Chris Pine at the film’s Venice Film Festival premiere fueled rumors of conflict and controversy on set.

However, Pine’s team quickly issued a statement to Variety denying what has been dubbed #SpitGate online.

“This is a ridiculous story – a complete fabrication and the result of a strange online illusion that allows for patently misleading and stupid speculation,” he said. “To be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that doesn’t exist.”

The slap heard around the world will go down as one of the most controversial moments on live television.

When Will Smith took the stage at the 94th Academy Awards in March and slapped comedian Chris Rock in the face, audiences in the theater and at home weren’t sure if it was staged or real.

It wasn’t long before everyone attacked Rock for making jokes at Smith’s expense, Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett. Rock compared her hair to a GI Jane haircut, prompting Smith to confront her.

Friends star Jennifer Aniston caused Instagram to crash when she joined the social media site in October 2019.

Aniston’s first post was a photo with her Friends co-stars Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Aniston’s account was the fastest account to reach one million followers, achieving this mark in five hours and 16 minutes. The record was then broken by Sir David Attenborough in four hours and 44 minutes.
