Egg prices have doubled in the past year, and Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 stopped by a farm in Wexford to see why. “It looks like, wow, you’re putting more money in your pocket, but really and honestly, you’re just trying to stay ahead of the rising cost,” said Ron Eichner, owner of Eichner’s Farm Market. Eichner’s Farm Market is a fourth-generation family farm where 3,000 hens lay eggs. Ron Eichner recently said he had to triple the price of eggs. “I’ve had to raise prices 25% in the last 4 months alone… jumbo is $5.20, extra large is $5.10 and large is $5. “Eichner said. That’s about a dollar more for every ten people in four months. Eichner says feed costs for his farm went up 36% last year. His electric bill went up, and he’s seeing an increase in the cost of egg cartons. Eichner said because of the high demand for eggs, he’s getting more calls from people looking for new egg suppliers.
