Guardians of the Galaxy 3 trailer confirms Gamora’s new role

Marvel Studios didn’t hold back in its San Diego Comic-Con slot over the weekend. Led by supreme producer Kevin Feige, Marvel announced a whole bunch of tantalizing projects coming up in phases 5 and 6 of the MCU.

The studio gave the Hall H crowd a special treat, however, showing a sneak peek of James Gunn’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The trailer, which wasn’t released online and was only shown to Hall H, revealed that Zoe Saldaña’s Gamora has joined The Ravagers post-Avengers: Endgame.

Of course, this isn’t the original version of Gamora seen in the first two guardians movies. That version died after Thanos sacrificed her in Avengers: Infinity War to get his hand on the soul stone.

However, the different version of Gamora came back due to time-travel shenanigans in Avengers: Endgame. That Gamora renounced Thanos, but she doesn’t actually know Star Lord (Chris Pratt) or any of the Guardians. This movie will explore the new Gamora and her life by her following the events of endgame.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the second film of the MCU’s phase 5, following Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Phase 5’s movie slate will be rounded out by the marvels, blade, Captain America: New World Orderand thunderboltswith the latter two announced at San Diego Comic-Con.

However, we won’t have to wait that long to see the Guardians in action. You can see most of the team in the opening segment of Thor: Love and Thunderwhich is the final movie of Phase 4, while The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will be released on Disney+ in December. all three guardians movies, plus the special, are written and directed by James Gunn.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1 and vol 2 are available now. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is coming to Disney+ later this year, and then Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 arrives on May 5, 2023.
