How to Fix “No IPv4/IPv6 Internet Access” Error in Windows

An IPv4 or IPv6 address helps identify and connect to other devices on the network. However, if you encounter a “No Internet Access” error when using IPv4 or IPv6, it is likely that your Internet connection is not working properly.

In this guide, we’ll go over a few troubleshooting steps to help you fix the “No IPv4/IPv6 Internet Access” error and get your internet connection back on track.

What Causes “No IPv4/IPv6 Network Access” Error?

If your computer only receives an IPv4 or IPv6 address when it connects to a network, it will display a “No network access” error. This can happen for several reasons, but some common factors include router configuration, incorrect network drivers, incorrect DNS server address, and IPv6 compatibility issues.

While it’s hard to pinpoint the exact cause, there are a few common fixes you can try to see if they fix the problem. So, here are a few troubleshooting methods to help you fix the “No Internet Access” error on your Windows computer.

1. Forget your wireless network and reconnect

You can fix the “No IPv4/IPv6 Internet Access” error by deleting your wireless network settings from your Windows PC. Once done, reconnect to the same network and check for any improvements.

To forget and reconnect to your wireless network:

  1. press Boiler + I to open Parameters.
  2. Then, open it Network and Internet icon in the left pane.
  3. Click Wi-Fi.

  4. Then, click on it Manage known networks.

2. Manually reset the Winsock Directory

Another variant of the “No IPv4/IPv6 Network Access” error affects only a select few applications. For example, you can access the Internet in your web browser, but not in your email client or software.

This can happen due to a corrupted network configuration. Fortunately, you can quickly fix it by resetting the Winsock directory. A sequence of Command Prompt commands is used to restore important network settings to their default state.

To rebuild the Winsock directory:

  1. press Win + S to open Windows Search.
  2. Kind cmd. Then, right click on it Command board and select Run as administrator.
  3. In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and click Insert:
    netsh winsock reset catalog
  4. After successful execution, type the following command and click Insert:
    netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log
  5. When successful, close Command Prompt and restart your computer. After restarting, check if the IPv4/IPv6 error is resolved.

3. Disable Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6).

If the “No Internet Access” error occurs only for IPv6, you can disable the affected IP in the network properties to solve the problem. If you are not using IPv6, the IPv4 protocol can handle your connection without any problems.

To disable IPv6:

  1. press Win + R to open Run.
  2. Kind control and click okay To open the Control Panel.
  3. Then, click on it Network and Internet.

  6. Right click on your network connection and select Features.

  7. In the Properties dialog, locate and uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) choice.

  9. click okay to save the changes.
  10. Right-click on the network connection again and select Features.
  11. Then, check it out Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) choice. let go IPv6 option not selected.
  12. click okay save the changes and restart your computer.

4. Configure your network adapter to obtain the DNS Server address automatically

The Windows operating system allows you to specify and use third-party DNS server addresses for security reasons. However, incorrect configuration for your DNS server address can cause “No Internet Access” error.

To fix this, make sure your network connection is set to automatically obtain IPv4/IPv6 and DNS server address. How to do it.

  1. press Win + R to open Run.
  2. Kind ncpa.cpl and click okay to open Network connection in Dashboard.
  3. Right click on your network connection and select Features.

  4. Into Features dialog, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP) and click on it Features button. You can also double-click IPv4 to access it Features.

  5. Then, choose Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically options.

5. Power Reset Your Router and Modem

Temporary problems with your router can also cause problems with your Internet connection. Reset the power to fix the problem. This involves turning off your router and modem for a moment and then turning them back on.

To perform a power reset:

  1. Unplug your modem’s power brick from your power outlet.
  2. Next, unplug your router’s power adapter.
  3. Leave the devices idle for a few minutes.
  4. Once done, connect the power brick and turn on your modem and router.

6. Update Your Network Adapter Drivers

  9. After the driver is installed, close Device Manager and restart your computer.

Some laptop manufacturers provide their own software to manage system drivers. For example, HP, Lenovoand Asus supplied with laptops HP Support Assistant, Lenovo Vantageand MyASUS programs respectively. Run the program and check for new updates for the computer.

Alternatively, you can also visit your computer manufacturer’s website to download the latest update for your network drivers.

7. Check Your Third Party Antivirus and Firewall

Third-party antivirus comes with a built-in firewall. Sometimes a firewall can block legitimate connections causing problems with your network connection.

Try temporarily disabling your third-party firewall or antivirus to see if the problem persists when the security software is disabled. Sometimes you may need to completely uninstall the security software to disable the firewall.
