Does your team have to carry you around all the time, or do you have to wait overnight for your games to download? If so, your PS5’s internet might be too slow.
Having internet issues on your PS5 can be frustrating to say the least. But there are a few things you can try to speed it up and level the playing field.
Why Is My PS5 Internet Speed So Slow?
There are several reasons why your PS5 internet might be slow. This could be due to an issue with PlayStation Network, Wi-Fi, or your PS5 console. Figuring out which of the above applies to your situation is the first step to solving your internet problems.
The first thing you should rule out is a problem with the PlayStation servers or the servers of the game you are trying to play. A quick Google search will confirm if there are any major issues with any of the servers you’re trying to connect to.
It could also be a problem with your internet provider. To check if this is the case, troubleshoot other items in your home. If your other devices are not connecting, there may be a problem with Wi-Fi. If so, contact your internet service provider.
If you’ve ruled out any issues with your ISP or PlayStation servers, the problem may be at home. If so, there are a few things you can try to increase your internet speed on your PS5.
Fix Wi-Fi problems in your home
The further your PS5 is from your router, the further the internet signal has to travel to reach your console. This significantly weakens the signal, especially when it has to pass through thick walls.
Run an internet speed test in both the rooms where your PS5 and router are located. If your PS5 speed test is significantly slower than the room where your router is located, move your console closer to it to boost your internet signal.
Another way to strengthen your Internet connection is to use a wired connection. The PS5 has an Ethernet port that allows you to connect your console directly to your router. Using a wired connection provides the strongest internet possible.
If many devices are connected to Wi-Fi at the same time, your router may be overloaded. This will result in a loss of signal strength as your router struggles to provide a strong enough internet connection to everything at once. Try disconnecting all your other devices before playing online.

Configure the PS5’s Internet Settings
If you’ve finished all of the above troubleshooting methods and your PS5’s internet is still very slow, consider changing your console’s DNS settings. DNS stands for Domain Name System and is what the internet uses to find and translate IP addresses. If you have internet problem on PS5, you can change your DNS server to the one used by Google.
Google’s DNS server is lightning fast and can give your PS5 the boost it needs to improve internet speed. Follow the instructions below to change your PS5’s DNS settings.
- open your PS5 settings by pressing the button gear icon.
- go to Network and open it Parameters.
- Click Establish an Internet connection.
- Select the connection you are currently using and press the options button on your DualSense controller to open the settings.
- press Advanced Settings.
- Enter the following parameters:

DNS Configuration: Manual.
Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4
