Increase your website traffic with ‘Offpage’ SEO

Increasing your organic traffic requires more than on-page Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – it’s probably the easiest thing you’ve ever done.

• Writing really good, well-rounded content.

• Developing meta descriptions that include your focus keyword.

• Identifying keywords and phrases and using them in your headlines and subheadings.

• Creating smart internal links between the pages of your website.

• Optimizing images and using alt tags.

But this is not enough. You should also do off-page SEO

Off-page SEO is an important part of a successful SEO strategy – it’s the activity OFF the pages of your website.

According to Whitespark’s 2021 Local Search Ranking Factors report, reviews can affect both Google Local Pack and Local Finder rankings, as well as local organic rankings. Podcasts are as much a part of off-page SEO as influencer marketing.

You’ve seen the Local Pack a few times

In the search space, you may not have known that it was a stand-alone product. Let’s say you’re going to be in Athens for a month and you’re looking for cafes with Wi-Fi near your Airbnb. (My local search for May).

You are presented with three lists, your location and a map with three cafes. This is your Local Package. Thanks to Local Pack, I found a delightful little cafe that is my go-to home with delicious food and friendly people!

GBP ranking factors rules

• Relevance: Complete and detailed business information will help Google better understand your business and match your listing to relevant searches.

• Distance: How far each potential business is from the location terms used in the search. Google prioritizes by location.

• Popularity: Your overall online presence. More reviews and positive ratings will improve your local ranking.

Reviews are another important component of off-page SEO

A Google Business Profile (GBP) review can be one of the first places a user encounters your name and brand. About 79% of people said they trust reviews as much as a personal recommendation from friends or family.

Your GBP acts as a mini-website displayed on the right side of the Google search results page that business owners can manage.

Reviews from your customers will generate more keywords and phrases – your company name appears again and words about your services. Access to the large, robust Google network is always a good thing.

That’s why I believe in using these Google tools. You can use an extensive inventory of proprietary software for almost anything, including keyword research.

But Google owns the search space. Using their tools means you align with the way they do things. Take advantage of it.
