Irma Vep trailer finds life imitating art as Alicia Vikander stars in a meta remake

The 1996 classic film about remaking a film becomes a remake itself in the first trailer for the new HBO Max series Irma Vep.

Alicia Vikander stars in the series as Mira, an American actress who signs on to star in a remake of the silent film Les Vampires.

The meta remake is based on the 1996 film by Olivier Assayas, who writes and directs the new series, streaming on HBO Max starting June 6.

The trailer begins with Mira in character pointing a gun at her co-star and firing it at him as he falls to the floor.

Director Rene Vidal (Vincent Macaigne) then instructs her to, ‘shoot him again,’ which she does as the man groans and Rene pumps his fist with a victorious, ‘Yes!’
