Singapore’s 15 fastest growing jobs for 2023, according to LinkedIn

According to LinkedIn, jobs are on the rise in Singapore amid economic volatility helping companies digitize and grow.

Its latest Rising Jobs data found jumps in hiring for growth specialists, technical jobs and healthcare professionals in Asia – among other jobs, which will expand hiring well into 2023.

Researchers from LinkedIn looked at jobs from January 2018 to July 2022 to calculate the growth rate for each job in a given country.

LinkedIn added that for a job to rank, a job title must have seen consistent growth on the platform over the past five years, as well as reach “meaningful size” by 2022.

Employees can use this list to determine their next career move and “prepare for the future of work.”

Business trends in Singapore

LinkedIn’s report found that the proportion of paid job postings offering remote work fell from 7.8% in December 2021 to 4.1% in the same period last year.

Its chief economist, Guy Berger, said in another report last year that the economic climate was causing some companies to “pull back the flexibility” they had applied during the pandemic.

However, what are on the rise are technical or engineering roles – such as cloud engineer, cybersecurity engineer, backend developer and artificial intelligence engineer.

The development of artificial intelligence, increasing attention to cyber security and the continuous shift towards digital direction are leading to an increase in technical jobs.

Career Expert, LinkedIn

These types of jobs make up almost half of LinkedIn’s Singapore listings.

“Advances in AI, increased focus on cybersecurity and the continued shift to digital are driving growth in technical jobs,” said Pooja Chhabria, career expert and Asia-Pacific editor at LinkedIn.

The dominance of tech jobs on Singapore’s list is also “not unexpected”, he added, given the country’s strong presence as a startup destination.

From a geographic perspective, Singapore is a good base for technology companies looking to enter Southeast Asia and other APAC markets.”

Demand for technology workers remains strong

However, waves of tech layoffs were reported in Southeast Asia last year amid tough macroeconomic conditions, including Indonesia’s GoTo Group, Singapore’s Offshore Group and Carousell.

Chhabria remains optimistic, saying this will be a transition year for the tech industry and “could return to more normal hiring levels.”

“Overall demand for workers remains strong, with workers moving across and within the industry,” he said.

“Technical jobs not only serve the technology sector, but are also in demand in other sectors as they continue to invest in digital transformation.”

What will happen to the tech workforce in 2023?

As in India, jobs focused on business growth and acquiring new customers are also growing, LinkedIn said.

In times of economic uncertainty, it helps companies “do more with less” — including sales development, business development and demand generation, Chhabria said.
